Individual Counselling in Gloucester

Past experiences and daily worries impacting your life? Counselling offers a safe space to improve your mental health, manage your emotions, and have healthier relationships.

How do I know if counselling is for me?

If you're struggling with your normal day-to-day life or are worried about your responsibilities and relationships, you might benefit from talking with a trained counsellor.

Deciding to try counselling is a choice only you can make, but many people find that just talking to a counsellor in a confidential, safe space can make a big difference.

Counselling will provide you with regular time and space to talk about the challenges you're facing, explore your thoughts and feelings, and think about how they're impacting you.

During counselling, you'll also be invited to think about healthy ways of coping, so you can move forward confidently and get the most out of life.

"Nic was a genuine lifesaver for me. When I initially started my sessions with him, I was in one of the worst spots I had ever been in mentally. However, through the weekly session, he helped me change my outlook on things and was incredibly accepting of my quirks."

- Adam

What to expect during your first counselling session

It takes a lot of courage to start counselling, so I invite people to have an informal chat with me before deciding if we'd be a good fit.

So, before your first counselling session, we would have already spoken about your reasons for considering therapy during a free counselling consultation.

Once we've had a chat, felt we'd be a good fit, and agreed on a good date and time to get started, I'll send you some digital documents for completion.

These will include important information about confidentiality, counselling expectations, payments, counselling breaks, cancellations, and so on.

How you might feel

When meeting for the first time following your free counselling consultation call, it would be normal for you to feel emotionally drained.

This is because I'll probably ask a lot of questions about you, what's most pressing for you, and how you typically cope.

We might also discuss your counselling goals in more detail.

Being emotionally prepared

It's important to be aware that therapy can involve speaking about painful events, memories, and feelings you've buried for years.

During your first counselling session, don't be surprised if you start to feel a wave of emotions you've not experienced or shared with anyone for a while.

And though it may feel strange at first to talk to a stranger (me!) in a way you've not felt able to with others, this is normal.

But don't worry, you might not experience intense emotions, and it isn't something you'd expect to happen every time we meet.

Although if you're feeling okay expressing a range of emotions, that's perfectly okay too!

What's important is that you feel safe and comfortable sharing openly.

Some common questions...

What makes this programme different from other stress management programmes?

What sets the Stress Reset Coaching Programmes apart is the structured, progressive approach. Rather than just learning techniques, you'll create lasting change by first understanding your unique stress patterns. Then you'll develop targeted strategies and build them into sustainable habits. The combination of personal tracking tools and one-on-one coaching means you're getting a customised experience, not a one-size-fits-all solution.

I'm already busy, how can I fit this into my schedule?

I understand your time is precious, so the daily activities are designed to integrate into your existing routine, taking just 15-30 minutes per day.

This small time investment will create more time in your day by reducing stress-related inefficiencies. We can also look at your schedule together and identify the best times for these activities, ensuring they support rather than strain your routine.

What if I fall behind or miss some days?

The Stress Reset Coaching Programmes are designed to be flexible while maintaining momentum. If you miss a day, you can easily pick up where you left off. The weekly check-ins help us identify any challenges early, and our one-on-one sessions are perfect opportunities to adjust the approach if needed. This programme is about progress, not perfection.

How do I know if I'm ready for this programme?

The best indicator is your recognition that your current stress management approach could be more effective. If you're feeling the impact of stress on your well-being, work, or relationships, and you're willing to commit 15-30 minutes daily to create change, you're ready! The programmes provide all the tools and support you need; you just need to be willing to engage with the process.

What kind of results can I expect?

The daily tracking helps you see your progress clearly over time. While everyone's journey is different, you can expect several key improvements by day sixty. For example, better sleep, less anxiety around work demands, clearer boundaries, more energy throughout the day, and confidence in handling stressful situations. You'll also develop a practical toolkit of strategies you can use long-term.

What happens after the programme ends?

By the end of the programme, you'll have established new habits and practical tools you can use independently. You'll also have your completed tracking sheets and personalised strategy documents to reference. If you feel you'd benefit from continued support, we can discuss options for maintenance coaching sessions. The goal is to ensure you feel confident managing stress independently while knowing support is available if needed.

What if it doesn't work for me?

Your success is my priority! Regular check-ins and tracking tools help us identify what's working and what isn't, allowing us to adjust our approach to better suit your needs. The one-on-one sessions ensure you're getting personalised support throughout the programme. If you're engaged with the process and completing the activities, you'll definitely see improvement! But rest assured, we'll work together to find the right strategies for you.

How much do your coaching sessions cost?

The Stress Reset Coaching Programmes start at £750.00. We'll discuss the details of each programme during your consultation call to ensure you feel confident in choosing the option that best meets your needs and goals. After your consultation call, you will be able to assess the value of the outcome you desire and decide on whether the programs are the right investment for you. Book your free consultation call to discuss the challenges you're facing, what the programme offers, and whether we'd be a good fit.

Do you offer payment options?

I believe in making this investment manageable. The programs can be paid in full, or we can discuss the payment plan options. The investment includes all one-to-one coaching sessions, daily tracking tools, weekly reviews/check-ins, ongoing email support, and the programme resources and materials. I'm happy to provide more details about the payment options that would work best for you.

Can I speak with past clients about their experience?

I respect my clients' privacy, but I can share several testimonials and case studies. These include specific examples of challenges they faced and the outcomes they achieved when working with me. I can send these to you after our call, or you can see some on my testimonials page.

Previous coaching didn't work. Why would this be different?

The Stress Reset Coaching Programmes are different because we focus on understanding why previous attempts haven't stuck before implementing new strategies. The gradual, three-phase approach ensures we're building on solid foundations, rather than just adding more techniques. Plus, the combination of daily tracking and regular coaching lets us identify and address obstacles before they derail your progress.

I'm not sure I can commit to all the coaching sessions...

The coaching sessions are strategically placed to maximise your progress. They're scheduled at key transition points, where focused support makes the most significant difference. However, we can be flexible with the scheduling of these sessions, and I'll ensure you get the most value from each one. Previous clients find these sessions and check-ins crucial for staying on track and making progress quickly.

What if I need support between coaching sessions?

Between sessions, you'll have clear daily guidance through the programme materials, and the tracking tools will help you monitor your progress. I also provide ongoing email support for quick questions or clarifications. While the programme is designed to build your independent stress management skills, you're never left entirely on your own.

I'm going through a particularly stressful period. Should I wait to start?

If you're going through a stressful time, this could be the perfect time to start! The programmes will help you develop real-time strategies for managing current stressors while building resilience for the future. We can use your current challenges as practical opportunities to apply and refine new approaches. Now would be the ideal time to get started!

How does this fit with the therapy I'm currently receiving?

These programmes can complement therapeutic work well, as we focus on practical stress management strategies and habit formation. However, I'd recommend mentioning the programme to your therapist to ensure it aligns with your overall therapeutic goals or treatment plan. What's good is that the tracking tools used in the Stress Reset Coaching Programmes can also provide valuable insights for your therapeutic work.
