We need to stop placing pressure on ourselves to live up to the expectations of others – particularly when it’s at the cost of being true to who we are.

Much of the challenge stems from the inner desire we all share to be liked – especially by those who we look up to or admire.

Respect them – yes we should! Honour them – yes we should! Emulate and aspire to have similar (good) character attributes – yes we must!

Become a clone of them – NO WAY!!!

You’re best at being you

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but we’re the best at being us. No one else can do it like we can. We’re the only ones capable of pulling it off to a decent standard, so we should feel permission to do so to the best of our ability.

Ironically, though its possible for us to spend an alarming amount of time emulating someone else – that’s not what will benefit us or others. Neither is it what excites, or endears others to us. It does the opposite!

People want authenticity

People want to see the real You. People long to see your personality and character shine through in every interaction. Why? Because seeing your congruence – the real You – gives them permission to be authentic. And as they observe your courage and resolve to be You, they’ll be encouraged and motivated to do the same. You will inspire them!

When you’re You – others can find the confidence to be themselves too, and to grow confident with who they are – shortcomings and strengths alike.

Truth is, being someone else should be left for someone else – not you! So whatever you’re doing, wherever you’re doing it, do the world a favour and make sure it’s the real You that’s present for others to see.

Be You!
